Do Not be Afraid

Don't be afraid

The instruction to “not be afraid” is the most frequently occurring command in the Bible. We are told to not be afraid over 350 times. Fear is addressed more than love or giving, hope or heaven, faith or salvation.

We know that fear is one of the biggest drivers of our kid’s behaviors. We need to recognize that fear is a major driver of our behaviors as parents as well. We are afraid of what others may think of us as parents. We are afraid of appearing weak to our kids. We are afraid that we are not good enough as parents. Perhaps that’s why we are told so many times to not be afraid.

I love the Lord’s remedy for fear. It’s not courage or weapons or wealth or might. It’s His presence. God tells us to not be afraid because He is with us. We cannot trust in our own abilities to conquer our fears, we can only trust in His presence.

Prayer

Lord, I know that I want to trust in my own abilities and rely on my own strength. Teach me to trust you more. So that I will feel your presence and have no fear. So that I can model that trust for my kids too. Thank you for your promises and presence.

In Jesus name, Amen

“Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.” – Isaiah 41:10 (NLT)
