Crisis schooling has looked very different than homeschooling.
I have a shortlist of school work, that rarely gets completed.
I have kids who can’t sleep at night because they are afraid.
I have kids who are eating way more often because they remember a time when food was scarce.
I have kids who are talking nonstop because they are worried and confused but don’t know how to process it.
I have a nonverbal kiddo who is confused by a weekly Zoom call with her class and therapists wearing masks to protect her.
In spite of all that, I also have kids from age 15 down to 7 who spent many hours playing together yesterday.
No screens. No agendas. Just enjoying each other’s company.
I want to remember this part when I look back at 2020.
